The idea behind this trip is to give those who are curious about whitewater kayaking a chance to give it a try. We will meet down on the Green River, just upstream from the town of Green River, and run a relatively easy stretch with enough waves and eddy currents to make things exciting. This is a weekend trip so plan on camping out for one or two nights. Green River is close enough to the Wasatch front, however, that this could be a one day trip if one so desired, and that day would be Saturday.
Participants will rent their own gear, and this can be done at the following locations (at least): Wasatch Touring in SLC (www.wasatchtouring.com); the UofU Outdoor Rec Center (http://web.utah.edu/campusrec/outdoor_rec/rentals.html); BYU Outdoors Unlimited (http://outdoors.byu.edu/rentals_boats.html - not sure if they rent the actual boat); and probably all the other local universities as well. The club members often have gear to loan out as well.
Cost: $20. This includes one day insurance the the ACA (American Canoe Association). If the participnts choose they can apply the event fee to a membership in the Utah Whitewater Club, which is $45 for an individual and $60 for a family.
